Community farm designdesign portfolio
I live in an intentional community called Hoathly Hill in West Sussex. Much of the land in the community is owned by a charitable trust, Hoathly Hill Trust, and when the previous farmer left, the trust called for new initiatives for a 15 acre field. I worked with different groups within the community, firstly as a trustee, then as a member of a steering group for the field, and always as a community member. In these groups and individually as a permaculture designer, we surveyed the site, the surrounding area, the people involved already and potential for collaboration, and the community’s vision for the field. We came up with a two stranded process of caring for the land and facilitating a community farm project meeting the needs of the community and regenerating the land.
